I want your opinion on the subject, please. How do you think classical music relates to the trends of today’s music?

the current bollywood music is not just classical music but is a blend f western music as well…
havin learnt classical music 4 a while now…i would say it helps you have a great foundation..so that you can build up music on your own…classical music from a singer’s point of view expands the vulnerability of your voice to all sorts of harkats & murkis & taans…shreya ghoshal is the best example…& anwesha …her voice is very well trained…
to explain how is it exactly related…breathless (shankar mahadevan) i think is somewhere near raag yaman…the song -sapno se bhare naina(luck by chance) is clearly raag bhairavi
these songs are derived from ragas…

Note: I know absolutely nothing about classical music but I thought it would be cool and relaxing to listen to some good classical music in the car. I tried to find a good classical music radio station, and I found some, but I did not like their selection of classical music. If I had to describe what i like I would say something with "big" sound for example Ode to Joy maybe? Nothing with like a single violinist playing a solo for like 5 minutes. Anyway, thanks in advance!

Most of people I talk to about my love for classical music give me a strange look as if I’m speaking a foreign language. Is there any way to convert a few of them from popular music to classical music?

Start with the compositions which get used and abused in the media.
Your friends will be surprised to find that they have been enjoying classical music without realizing it.

im auditioning for a school of music and i have to sing a classical song. besides ave maria, what are some really good classical songs? im use to singing R’nB but im going to try anyways lol ive always liked the phantom of the opera.

Schools often have a list of suggested repertoire to use for auditions. Check their music department website under audition information to see. If they don’t have a list posted, contact someone in the choral department and ask.

Don’t use anything from Phantom.

So I have to do a school project and choreograph a dance to classical music, as I’m a contemporary dancer I’d like to choreograph a contemporary dance and not something that looks like classical ballet. Anyone who knows a good piece or composer that is not an obvious choice? O, I love piano!

Rachmaninov is good for piano pieces, and I don’t think his stuff is usually played, at least not in dance.

Great ! I suggest light airy Mozart chamber music because something with big sound distracts more than helps. Did you know there are studies that babies increase their thinking process listening to mozart?
I believe those who peg classical music as an old persons thing have been indoctrinated by the Nickelodeon and music channels.
I am an 80 year old who plays and conducts his own music. My students are famous worldwide and they are not old folks.

I need a music that I can listen to classical music or jazz music on. I don’t want to have to pay, because it’s for school and I’ll probably never listen to it again after my assignment is done. Anything will work, just so long as I don’t have to pay.

Yes I think it is fine to listen to classical music while studying. For me it helps me focus, if i listen to pop music i get way to distracted.

No i think it is stupid when people say classical music is for only older people because honestly in my opinion i think people in almost every generation listen to it. I am 14 and I listen to it and Absolutely love it! practically obsessed with it.

what i like to listen to when im doing homework is debussy’s pieces very relaxing some are in the faster tempos but still very enjoyable and not very distracting. He is not from the classical era if that’s what you are looking for, but his compositions are amazing!
