What do you think of traditional Irish music?

November 32009

I love it, I’m originally from Ireland (well my parents are) and I went back a few weeks ago to a festival called puck fair, the atmosphere was amazing, pubs packed up with irish folks and loud traditional music playing, the nightlife was great and the people were great too.
HERE’S A NICE EXAMPLE

Paddy’s revenge by Steve Mac.
It uses a loop from "music for a found harmonium", but personally I don’t like it.

Where can I find some Irish step dancing music?

October 262009

I need some really upbeat and intense music, almost like Riverdance music at the ending. Music with the actual stepping and clicking would be awesome.

Thanks guys!

Like the other two said, iTunes, or the Riverdance Website. And if you’re an Irish dancer, try Feisanna. They ALWAYS have music in the vendors.

Traditional Irish music played on electric guitar?

October 242009

What are some groups that play traditional Irish music on the electric guitar? The more popular, the better.

I’m looking for people who would be good for an "Irish Guitar Hero", if it existed. Stuff like Thin Lizzy’s "Whiskey In The Jar" and the Young Dubliners’ "Weila Waile."

i’d say dropkick murphy’s, even though it’s more of a punk/irish fusion. also look at the pogues. also, if you’re doing irish GH, might as well have regular rock n’ roll from ireland, like U2 and the Answer.

By listening how can you tell the difference between a jig and a reel in Irish Traditional music?

October 202009

I’d appreciate if you could explain without getting overly technical. Thanks!

A jig is compound time 6/8 which means there are 6 quaver beats in each bar "trip-e-let trip-e-let" a quaver is half a beat, the emphasis is on the "trip" this is when you tap your foot.
A reel is 4/4 time which means there are 4 crotchet beats in each bar "Black-and-decker black-and-decker" a crotchet is one beat. The emphasis is on the "black". Reels are faster and more intense to play.
