What are some masterful beautiful and classic classical music titles?

October 312009

I have loved classical music every since childhood , but currently I have almost no classical music in my music collection I would like to start a collection can anyone give some really beautiful classical song titles and artist names? Maybe start with some classics well known must haves and possibly some new masterpieces?

Anything by Grieg. Lots of originality.

Classical music covers a huge area. There is something for everyone. I have been listening to classical music for almost 60 years and even I do not like all of it.

You need to decide what type of music or instruments you find beautiful i.e. piano, violin, orchestral, string quartets etc. and also you may prefer music of a certain period.

As a pianist I am most fond of piano music. So I would suggest to get your classical music collection started the following:

    J.S.Bach Concerto for two violins

    Beethoven Symphony No. 6

    Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21

    Dvorak New World Symphony

    Mendelsshon Violin Concerto

    Chopin Ballades

    Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2

    Prokofiev Symphony No. 7

I wish you the best in your listening expierence.

    Some newer ‘masterpieces’

    Samuel Barber: Violin Concerto

Igor Stravinsky: Petruchka, complete version / Pulcinella, complete version (there are shorter suites).

John Adams: Harmonium, for chorus and large orchestra.

Steve Reich: Music for 18 musicians.

    best regards, p.b.

For starters, I would go for Tchaikovsky or Mozart. They write really, really beautiful melodies.

I wouldn’t recommend Beethoven/Chopin for now. There is a certain depth into their pieces which one can only appreciate if he/she knows classical music.

But then again, music is meant to be shared with the world. So if you are comfortable with it, go for it.
