    You play out of tune. This is because you push the string up. In fact you’re bending the notes out of tune that way.

    I may be partly because you have a problem reaching the notes, which on it’s turn is caused by a wrong left hand technique. Try holding the knuckels of your left hand paralel to the neck. You probably need to put your left elbow a bit more away from you body to get that result. When you hold your left hand correctly your left hand span will increase.
