What influence does jazz have on modern music?
August 302009
I’m doing a lit project about the roaring 20′s, and this was one of my questions.
With the 1920′s came a new era of music: Jazz. What were the influences behind the new genre and how does it affect modern musicians?
With Jazz came improvisation, the thinking that it was alright to make up solos and other parts of the music just as it came to you. Out of this bands like Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead made it acceptable for rock musicians of the 60′s and on to do much of the same thing. Today there is a whole genre of music (Jam Bands) that do much of the same thing…. Bands like Phish, Disco Biscuits, Widespread Panic, etc.
Also Hip hop came from funk, R&B, and Blues. All of these are closely rooted to Jazz
